TRAINING COLLEGE WORK FINE APPROACH TO GROUNDS The gates erected at tho East Avenue entrance to the Auckland Training College as a memorial to teachers who fell in the Great War are to lie opened at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16. Arrangements for the ceremony are being made by (lie Auckland branch of the Educational institute, and a halfholiday will bo observed in city and suburban schools for the occasion. Mr. T. U. Wells, chairman of tho Education Board, will presido at the ceremony, and the gates will bo officially opened by Major-General W. L. 11. Sinclair-Burgess after (he consecration by Archbishop Averill. Tho gates, which have been constructed by (lie provision of teachers in the Auckland district, form an impressive approach to the grounds of the. college, which havo recently been improved to a groat degree. There are fix columns of Portland stone, thrco on each sido of the roadway. A simple design gives tho work dignity, and a particularly striking feature is tho quality of the workmanship in the bronzo gates proper. The third column on each side of the roadway is detached from its fellows to .flank a pathway. Tho work has been in progress for about nine months, but it has not- been hastened at the expense of tho general activities of improving the college grounds. Tho roadway leading into the grounds through the gates is intended to form tho basis of a moro developed reading plan in tho area.
