PUSSY IN THE COAL
Dear Miss Morton,—l am going to tell you of a little surprise I encountered one day last week. Well, it happened like this. 1 v.-as asked by mother to go and get some coal out o£ the coal-shed, so of course I-went off straight away to get it. And can you imagine my surprise when_ I opened the door and saw the strange sight that met my eyes. 'Well, it was Pussy, my pure black cat, with three darling little black, fluffy kittens beside her. Ilow happy she sounded when I petted the wee kittys for awhile, because she sang the whole time I was in the shed getting the coal. I was in a wee bit too long though, as Mum sent Lena out to see what the delay was, and imagine her surprise when sha saw the cause. So Lena took the coal into Mum while' I made a bed for the cat and her kittens in an old grass-catcher. I'm afraid they won't be there for very long, as my brother (who i 3 a great cat-hater) is sure to want the old catcher nest time he moves the lawns. —Your loving pen-friend, Joan Bchwarz, Princes Street, Cambridge.
