MAIL BAGS RIFLED

ROBBERY FROM A TRAIN When (ho great western express reached Perth, Westorn Australia, on October 14, postal officials discovered that seven mail bags had been interfered with, and that from theso three smaller bags, containing registered matter, had been taken. The bags wore taken by Commonwealth train from Port, Augusta, South Australia, in a sealed van, and were transferred at Kalgoorlio to another scaled van, in which they were taken to Perth. This van was still sealed wlien it reached the city. The police believe that the bags were robbed eithor in South Australia or during tho journey across the Nullabor Plain. The bags bad been tied with string, and sealed with lead, but when they were received it was found that the string had been broken and retied loosely, with the seals still hanging. It is reported that a £SO note, consigned from Adelaide to Pci'tli, was missing, but until further reports come to hand, the value of the , stolen registered mail will not be known.
