ROAD IMPROVEMENT

0 THAMES RELIEF WORK [BY TELEGRAnt —OWN CORRESPONDENT] THAMES, Friday It was reported at a meeting of the Thames Unemployment Committee that, in regard to the request from a number of miners and others to have the Karaka Creek Road improved by relief labour, to make the road suitable for motor traffic, a considerable amount of drainage and formation work would be necessary. The cost would be almost entirely for labour. It was decided that the work be undertaken on the completion of the Tararu Creek Road. The borough foreman reported that 88 men were engaged on relief works in the borough. The certifying officer notified that he had recently terminated three contracts under the 4A scheme for breaches of agreements not to employ men on seasonal work, such as milking.
