OBITUARY
ME. C. R. DUNCAN The death has occurred at Napier of Mr. Charles Robert Duncan, formerly of Auckland, aged 60 years. Born in Australia, he came to New Zealand and entered the printing trade in Auckland, At. the time of his death, which occurred suddenly, he was on the staff of the Daily Telegraph, Napier, having been connected with that paper for the past six years. MR. T. J. WALKER [from O'IXR own correspondent] TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday The death has occurred of Mr. Thornton James Walker, of Waikeria, near T» Awamutu, at; the age of 73 years. Mr. Walker was one of the best-known settlers in the Waikato, - and for many years resided at Monavale, where his father, the late Mr. E. B. Walker, farmed an extensive property. Mr. Walker was born in Tasmania, but came with his parents to New Zealand as an infant, and had lived in the Auckland province practically all his life. He wa» a keen sportsman, being especially interested in hunting and polo. He is survived by his wife, three sous and a daughter. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place yesterday afternoon, the interment being at the Kihikihi Cemetery. MR. T. E. CURTIS [from our ows correspondent] OPOTIKI, Tuesday The death has occurred at Waiotahi o? . Mr. Thomas Emanufcl Curtis, aged 82 years. Mr: Curtis was born at St. Brunswick, Canada, in 1850, and came to New Zealand in 1863. He saw three years' service in the Maori War ori the east coast, and was engaged in bushfalling and farming near Gisborne until 30 vears ago, when he purchased an unimprovsd area of land in tho Waiotahi Valley. This h 9 transformed into a dairy farm. Mr. Curtis is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter. MRS. J. GIBB [by telegraph—own correspondent] WELLINGTON, Tuesday The death occurred last evening of Mr«. Gibb, wife of the Rev. Dr. James Gibb. They were married in Scotland in 1882, the year in which Dr. Gibb left the Old Country to take up an appointment under commission to the Presbverian Church of Victoria. Mrs. Gibb is survived bv her husband, two sons, the Rev. George Gibb, of London, and tho Rev. M. C. Gibb, of Sydney, and three daughters. REV. R. M. RYBURN [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday The death has occurred of the Rev, Robert Middleton Ryburn, a prominent minister of the Presbyterian Church, the age of 66 years. Mr. Ryburn was born at Panmure, and was educated at the Panmure, Newmarket and Auckland City East Schools. At the age of 13 years b» obtained an Auckland Education, Board junior scholarship an# entered the Auckland College and Grammar School. Two years later he won tho board's open scholarship. He entered the Auckland University College in 1884. and in that veat gained a ccllege senior scholarship and the Somerville theological bursary. After tak*"; ing his B. A. degree in 1887, he went to Dunedin, where he took the M.A. degree with honours in mathematics. After being licensed by the Auckland Presbytery. Mr* Ryburn received a call from Gisborne, and hp was ordained there in 1890 and inducted into his first charge, which he he.Ov for seven years. At Gisborne he was mar' ried to Miss Anna Steadman. His charge was St. Paul's Church, Wanganuu Subsequently Mr. Rvburn was minister a*;; the First Church (1909) and Ft. Andrew® Church, Christchurch (1918). He had he! tho position of director of youth since 1921. In 1916 Mr. Ryburn was electeeModerator of the General Assembly of tw Presbyterian Church-of New Zealand.
