ASLEEP UNDER HOUSE
INDIAN HAWKER CHARGED ONE MONTH'S IMPRISONMENT An Indian hawker, Givan Ganesh, aged 31, pleaded not. guilty when charged in the Police Court yesterday with being found without lawful excuse on premises at 149 Grey's Avenue. Evidence was given by the Indian occupier of the premises and a constable that accused had beon found asleep underneath the house at 6 a.m. that day. Ho had no authority to be there. Counsel for the defence, Mr. Noble, said that accused broke a window in complainant's house on tho previous night and returned to make good the damage. In any case L he was; doing no harm when found. " He is one of the worst men in the city when he gets drink in him," said Detective-Sergeant Kelly. "He becomes abusive and even his countrymen .are afraid of him. We> cannot do anything with him. He has a list; of previous convictions and i;s only recently out of prison." " You appear to be perfectly happy at the prospect of going back to prison," said tho magistrate. Mr. W. E. McKean, to accused, who was smiling. " Give mo ono more chance," pleaded accused. Mr. McKean: I will give you one month. Accused: That is one month too much. Mr. McKean: No, ono month it will be.
