TRAMPERS' EXCURSION
OUTING AT WAIMAUKU ABOUT 500 PARTICIPATE About 500 trampers participated in the fifth "mystery" excursion train to leave from Auckland. The destination was a point one and a-half miles beyond the Waimauku railway station. Miss Esther James, who recently walked from Spirit's Bay to Bluff and who accompanied the party, stated that the outing compared more than favourably with others in which she had participated in other centres. From the point where the trampers detrained to the luncheon spot the track passed through the farms of Messrs. Gillespie, Copeland, Fletcher and Houghton. The owners of the property rendered every assistance to make the excursion a success, and removed stock from the paddocks through which the trampers passed. The party had lunch at the foot of the Muriwai Falls, and a number went swimming in a pool at the foot of the main falls. The day was ideal for walkipg, and the party arrived back at the Waimauku station at 4 o'clock.
