HUTT WINTER CUP TOURNEY J. L. BLACK'S COURSE RECORD [BY TELEGRAPH —I'RESS ASSOCIATION] - WELLINGTON. Friday J. L. Black, of Hamilton, broke the course record and headed the>*mt in the two qualifying rounds for the Winter Cup competition at the Hutt Golf Club's annual tournament. His. rounds were 70 and 78, total 143. His brother, H. A. Black (Miramar). 79, 72—151, was second. Sime (Westportj. 80, 78—158, was fifth, and F. C. Fryer (Napier), 164. and H. E. Troutbeck (Napier), ICS. were seventh and eighth. The previous course record was 72. . Tho winners in the first round this morning were J. L. Black (Hamilton), 11. E. J rout beck (Napier). A. G. Sime (Westport), W. G. Fisher (Hutt), T. R. McG.regor. W. K. Cook (Hutt), ll'. A. Black (Miramar) and F. C. Fryer (Napier). In the second round this afternoon J. L. Black beat Troutbeck, 1 up; Sime beat Fisher, 9 and 8; McGregor beat Cook. 1 up: H. A. Black beat Fryer. 9 and 8. The semi-final and final will be played to-morrow. PAPAKURA CLUB'S OFFICERS In tho .absence of the president (Mr. E. D. McLennan) Mr. W. A. Pavitt presided over a good attendance of~ members at tho annual meeting of the Papakura Golf Club. Tho balance-sheet revealed a credit balance of ±'22 16s, and tho secretary's report showed the club to have had a very successful and enjoyable-season. Mr. and Mrs. E. I). McLennan, iunr.. were elected life members in appreciation of their great interest in the club since its incoption. It is proponed to extend the course another hole next season. At the close' of play Mrs. Hay presented the prizes won during the season. , HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS KING COUNTRY GATHERING Cby telegraph—own correspondent! TE KUITI, Friday The annual meeting of the King Country District High Schools Sports Association was held to-day at the Te Kuiti Domain in ideal weather. There was a large gathering of children, teachers, and parents and the sports were most successful. Excellent times were registered in all events and new records were made for the 889 yds. running event and the 880 yds. walk and the relay races. Te Kuiti school secured 561 points; Taumarunui. 38; Otorohanga;-29; Te.Awamutu, 134; and Piopio, 7. Both high school and primary school pupils competed, to-day. Previously only the high schools participated. At the conclusion cf the' sports certificates were presented by Mr. R. Webster, headmaster of the Piopio school. The points prir.a cups were won by Te Kuiti boys and T» Kuiti girls. The tug-of-war was won by Piopio. It was decided not to publish individual results as tho sports were strictly interschool. ;
