CHRISTMAS COMPETITIONS

Readers of " Girls and Boys" from seven to 19 years of age are invited to take part in the following Christmas Competitions: ORIGINAL STORY, New Zealand setting, up to 1000 words. Sixteen to 19 years. First Prize, ONE GUINEA; second prize, HALF-GUINEA. " THE TEN BEST GIFTS." If you could have your choice, what would be the ten test gifts you would ask to take into the New Year? Add a few lines of comment to each gift. Two prises, FIVE SHILLINGS each. Boys and girls 13 to 15. JUNIOR SECTION " SANTA AND THE BURGLARS." Christmas story, not more than 600 words. Boys and girls 10 to 12 years. " THE NURSERY RHYME PICNIC." The little nursery rhyme folk go for a picnic on Boxing Day. Describe their adventures. Boys and girls seven to nine years. Handsome book prizes for best entries in each section. ARTISTS' SECTION SPECIAL CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR HEADINGS: Fourcolumn sketch. Indian ink, B£in. by 3in., featuring the words, " CHRISTMAS GREETINGS." or " HAPPY NEW YEAR;" Good lettering essential. Competitors may enter for both contests. HALF-GUINEA prizes for two best entries. Girls and boys 16 to 19 years. * CALENDAR CONTEST. This competition is for hand-made or painted calendars, any design. Two prizes, FIVE SHILLINGS each. Boys and girls, 10 to 15 years. Also Consolation Prizes. CLOSING DATE FOR ALL ENTRIES, SATURDAY, \ 1 NOVEMBER 12. RULES TOR COMPETITORS All work must be absolutely original, and must not have appeared in print before. Any competitor sending in"work copied or already published will be disqualified. „ All drawings or paintings must be folded, not rolled. Write neatly in ink, on one side of the paper only. State full name (not initials), address and age on first page, pin all sheets together securely. „ Address all entries to Miss Morton, Editor, " Girls and Boys, New Zealand llekald, Auckland.
