AVONDALE WOMEN'S CLUB

The Avondalo Women's Club met in the Blockhouse Bay hall on Tuesday afternoon. The president, Miss Newton, presided. Mrs. Gregory gave an interesting summary of the history of paper currency, and Miss Newton followed with a paper on tho Douglas sricial credits scheme. A "shilling" competition was hold, members contributing articles made at the outlay of not more than Is. In tho needlework section tho popular vote awarded the prizes to Mrs. W. Wood, 1, and Mrs, E. Gill, 2. The prize in the cookery section was won by Mrs. Savillo Jones. A delightful programme of items was rendered by visitors from New Lynn. Mrs. Piatt sang soveral songs, and Mrs. Bolcr gavo monologues and recitations, all of which were greatly enjoyed. Mrs. Barrett played the accompaniments. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdamcs Oxenham, Greep, Gill and Earland.
