RESTRICTIONS TO APPLY HAURAKI GULF WATERS [iiY TELEGRAPH —SPECTAI, REPORTER] WELLINGTON, "Wednesday Regulations prohibiting seine-netters from fishing in certain areas of the Hauraki Gulf are to be issued shortly, as a result of representations made by Mr. W. P. Endean (Government —Parnell) to the Minister of Marine, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe. , Explaining the effect of the proposed restrictions, Mr. Endean said seine-netters and trawlers would be prohibited for all time within the area bounded by a line drawn approximately from Saddle Island skirting the coast to the north-east part of Wairau Bay on the "Whangaparaoa Peninsula. A similar prohibition would apply to waters on the north side of W aiheke Island, including Oneroa and Onetangi Bavs. Another prohibited area would be the waters inside a line drawn from Deadman's Point up the Coromandel coast and embracing the islands near the coast. During the summer months, seine-netters would be excluded from an area within a line drawn from Takatu to Kauri 1 oint on Waiheke Island. "I understand the regulations will be issued within a few days," said Mr. Endean. "They are designed to conserve the suppiv of fish in the Hauraki Gulf for tho people of Auckland, and very beneficial results should accrue from their application."
