THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE STEADY CONDITIONS PREVAIL Conditions were fairly steady on the 'Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, there being. an average turnover at prices in fcccordance with recent values. Buyers ( concentrated largely on Government securities, in which further advances in offers were recovded. The 1938 4j per cent bonds, (.11 which the half-yearly interest is due shortly, were sought 7s 6d higher at £96 32s 6d and offers for the 1939 4£ per cent bonds wese advanced 2s 6d to £94 12s 6d. Rises of 5s were registered in offers for ■ 937 per cent and 1937 5£ per cent Sep--1 ember bonds, which were sought at £96 3.0s and £IOO respectively. The 1936 5J per cent bonds were done 5s higher at £IOO 2s 6d and there was a salo in 1937 per cent September stock unchanged lit £IOO. The banks and insurance groups were productive of only minor movements in levels. Bank of Australasias were available 3s lower at £lO Is, prompting an offer at £9 15s. Nationals of New Zealand sold ,'Sd higher; at £4 Is 3d, after which offers were reduced Is to £4, and holders did not <|uote. Offers for New Zealands were 3d lewer at 455, sellers quoting steadily at 465. The D preference issue changed hands <»d lower at 295. Unions, which were available unchanged at £B, were sought Is lower at £7 16s. The market for insurance issues was firm, tho only transaction being in Standards at 50s» which is 8s 9d higher than the last previous sale on July 20. Holders were quoted 6d higher at 50s 6d. In the other sections Tooth's Breweries, which have not sold sinco August 18, were done at 32s 3d at two sales, registering a gain of 4s 9d. There was a sharp decline in offers for Colonial Sugars, which at £4B 15s, were 15s lower. Holders quoted 2s 6d lower at £SO and there was a sale unchanged at £49 15s. There was a firming tendency in Wilsons Cements and after an early sale unchanged at 31s a further release was made at 31s 6d, with a rise in levels. Offers for leading mining issues were n shade easer, Waihis being sought 2d lower at 17s 4d and Mount Lyells 6d lower at 21s. f Business was done in Cornish Points Id higher at 3d, Kawaraus id higher at 7d and Golden Points unchanged at 6d.
