GOVERNMENT REPORT The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: A slight anticyclone is passing to the north of New Zealand, while a fresh depression has reached eastern Australia. Barometers are abnormally low over the Tasman Sea and the New Zealand area as a whole. Indications are for light to moderate winds, variable at first with southerlies prevailing, but tending northerly tomorrow. Seas smooth to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea, light- to moderate winds, variable at first, but tending northerly and freshening, A few scattered showers are still likely, principally in eastern districts of the South Island, but otherwise the weather should be fair with an improvement everywhere to-morrow, except in the west and south of the South Island.
