JURORS' FEES REDUCED
NEW RATE OF 9s A DAY WITNESSES ALSO AFFECTED [b? TELEGRAPH-'—special REF-OKTEB] WELLINGTON. Thursday A reduction in the fees payable to jurors and witnesses is announced to take place from next week. The main alterations are the reduction of jurors' fees from 10s 6d to 9s, and witnesses' fees from 9s to Bs. Tho Nat ionol Expenditure Commission recommended that jurors' fees should b# reduced to 6s, which was considered ample in view of the fact that until comparatively recently tho rate was Bs, and not many years earlier was 4s. Tile commission contended that jury work should be regarded as a national service. Tho commission hlso recommended that th-? allowances payable to witnesses in criminal prosecutions and at coroners' inquests should be reviewed, but suggested no specific scale-
