LARGE SAILING VESSELS
TWO TO VISIT AUCKLAND ARRIVAL EARLY NEXT YEAR Two large overseas sailing vessels, the German four-masted barque Passat and the Finnish barque Winterhude, are scheduled to arrive at Auckland early next year with full cargoes of guano from Juan de Nova, Mozambique Channel. The Passat is expected in January and the Winterhude in February. The Passat is a steel vessel of 3180 tons and was built at Hamburg, Germany, in 1911. She is one of the largest sailing vessels afloat and was constructed to carry nitrate cargoes from Chile to Europe. The Winterhude is also a German-built steel vessel of 1972 tons and was constructed at Bremerhaven in 1898. Early this year she took a cargo of wheat from. Australia to Europe. The last large sailing vessel to visit Auckland was the 1816 ton Finnish fullrigged ship Grace Harwar, which arrived here last February with 3000 tons of guano from Juan de Nova.
