SAD NOISE FOR WOMAN
A sad woman sat a few weeks ago listening to the noise, of tho sledge-ham-mers and pickaxes of workmen who were demolishing; her home in Blacltfriars Road, Londoji. Her husband, Mr. John Martin, a shoe-dyer, was given notice to quit by I)is landlords, the City of Loudon Corporation, on the grounds that his premises were a dangerous structure. Ho refused to leave because no alternative accommodation had been provided. Meanwhile, the London County Council housebreakers demolished the upper storeys of the building. Crowds were studying notices of protest which read: — " Home, and business damaged through Mayor and City Corporation refusing to do their duty. " How tho City Corporation treat their tenants after paying rent and rates for fifteen years." Mr. Martin said: " I have nowhere else to go, and I am not going to allow my wife, and children to go to the workhouse if I can help it."
