STRANGE BURGLARY
" GHOST " THIEF CASE VAIN ALL-NIGHT VIGIL A burglary which might- have been taken from the adventures of Raffles himself was lately engaging the attention of the police at Loughton, Bletchley, Buckinghamshire. Mrs. Harrison, of the Fountain Hotel, was warned by the police to take special precautions against burglars. As within the year two previous burglaries had occurred at the hotel, Mrs. Harrison and some of the 15 guests kept a vigil until daylight one morning. Then they retired to bed. Mrs. Harrison, after locking all the doors and barring the windows, took the till, containing £25. to her room, where she slept. She jilaced it beside her bed. Two hours later it had gone, without a sound being heard. " The burglar apparently got in through a skylight in the kitchen," said Mrs. Harrison. He tl:?n made his way through the dining room and lounge to the bedroom. He also visited the wine cellar and helped himself to some choice wine, but in doing so he left his fingerprints behind. These had been photographed by the police and sent to Scotland Yard. . . " It was daylight when I went to bed and yet the man got in and robbed us. The till we afterwards found in the grass in the, garden."
