WAIKATO JOTTINGS

TE HOIA'S CUP ENGAGEMENTS INJURY TO SENORITA j PROMISING YOUNG HORSES [litem OUR OWN correspondent] HAMILTON. Monday After racing at Wangantii, High Commissioner was left at Marlon by J. P. Tutchcn and the jumper is booked to proceed to the Otaki meeting early next month. His success on th<3 flat at Wanganui was well received by local supporters and his prospects over hurdles at Otaki, where L. Dulieu will ride liini, can be regarded in a very rosy light. Senorita encountered some trouble during the running of the Spring Hack Handicap at Wanganui on Saturday and after the race it was found she had a badly-cut leg. However, the injury is not sufficiently serious to throw her out of commission for long and it is hoped to rnco her again at the Waikato Hunt meeting A two-year-old recently taken up by J. F. Tutchen that shows distinct promise of turning out very useful is a gelding by Kilbroney from Abbey Day. Registered as Killador, he is a well-grown sort that looks as though ho may require time. Ho is a particularly well-made youngster and is beinj' given plenty of to develop. Kalian, who has wintered well, has rejoined Tutchcn's active brigade, but so faille has been allotted the lightest of tasks. This half-brother to Taku Tama is looking in excellent shape and on his showing 111 his first and only start so far he should pay his way in the hack division this season. Another likely looking two-year-old that Tutchen has in light work is Spring Time, a filly by Little England from Gambolling, and thus a half-sister to Easter Time. She is a little on the small Bide and is as yet rather backward. A Good One at Cambridge There seems little doubt but that Mr. I?. Ilannon has a distinctly promising three-year-old in the .Lit tie England—Curcarua gelding Great Britain. Ho has, of course, not yet raced, but for a i mud en he shows promise far above the ordinary. His track work has been impressive. It is probable that ho will make his public appearance at the Waikato Hunt meeting. Abbey Dream, who showed some promise in tho autumn by a second in a fair field of hacks at the Avondale meeting, is being .prepared for a jumping career by A. Ayers at Cambridge. Her initial tasks have been executed in very pleasing lashiori and she is scheduled to make her first appearance over buttons at tho Waikato Hunt meeting, prior to which, however, she will be raced on the flat at Avondale. Excellent schooling work has been registered by T'e Koroke at Cambridge. Although his breeding does not indicate true staying ability, his pace will always be a material factor in hunters' events, and he may be prominent in the Waikato Hunt Cup at Cambridge next month. *•' T. M. Morriss suffered a stroko of bad luck when Vnl Simon broke down last week. Val Simon has shown moderately useful form, but has been sore for eomo litilo time. . Good progress is bring inado with the preparation of IV lloia for the Avondale Cup. a'n event in which Kversnn's charge can be by no means disregarded, 110 bears a well-trained appearance and, providing everything goes well in the meantime, he should bo a very fit horse on the day. Although the distance will bo a new experience for him. the manner in which he is generally to be found running on at. tho end of his races suggests that he should slay. To Hoia. has also been entered for the Zealand Cup. but tho trip to Chvistchurch will largely depend upon his showing at Avondale.

An Unfortunate Injury Mr. Martin Tims says it will probably be found necessary to destroy ih'» two-year-old half-brother, by Acre, to Karapoti, of which such high hopes had been held. While being broken in, the youngster fell heavily, evidently sustaining concussion, which seems to have affected the nerves controlling tho eyes. The two-ycar«o!d is a beautiful colt . and. ll» wis regarded as a strong possibility -ior the highest .-classic honours.

Mr. Tims has KQino consolation in the possession of a fine stamp of two-year-old colt, a full-brother to To Kara. One of the best-looking two-year-olds seen out for some time, he is regarded as a youngster of distinct promise, and one full worthy of following in Ihe footsteps of his illustrious fullbroi her.

Beila, a hunter in T. M. Morriss' care at Cambridge, is acquitting himself in satisfactory manner in -his preparation for the AVaikato Hunt meeting. His form at the Pakuranga Hunt fixture was just good enough to give him fair prospects of earning a winning bracket, and as he. seems to bo improving, success may shortly como his way.

HIGH COMMISSIONER'S FORM

High Commissioner, winner of tho Okchu High-weight Handicap at Wanganui last week, is tho lust horse sired by tlie defunct All Red. He was bred by Mr. J. Bull and is from a half-sister to Naata. a good performer, who was eoually at. home either on tho flat or over fences. High Commissioner is held on lease by his trainer. J. F. Tutclien. and should prove o. payable proposition through the. season. Up 1o the present he has nut raced with much luck, hut there is good reason to anticipate that he will fare better from now on. r.s ho lias possibilities in both high-weight handicaps and jumping races.
