IRONMONGERY TRADE

THE AWARD TO LAPSE No agreement was reached at the adjourned conciliation council yesterday between employers and workers in the wholesale ironmongery trade, and as a consequence the present award will lapse after 30 days from the first, meeting of the council, September 9. ' After lengthy discussion, Mr. P." Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, who presided at tho meeting, said that in his opinion it appeared hopeless to proceed further in an attempt to arrivo at a complete agreement. The assessors for both sides agreed with this, but a proposal that the matter should be referred to the Arbitration Co'jrE, as provided by the amended legislation, was lost.
