HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST . CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED The following Weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-dav was supplied by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:—A slowmoving although extensive depression is moving on to the northern portion of the North Island. Cloudy and unsettled weather, with l'jiin, is indicated in northern and cast coast districts, the rain area gradually spreading southward and becoming general. Easterly to south-east-,erly winds, moderate to strong, prevailing and freshening. Rough seas on the east coast, particularly northward from East Cape. Local outlook: Cloudy and unsettled. Mild temperatures. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 29.90 in. Midnight, Monday . . . . 30.05 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight) Maximum, 58deg.; minimum, 52deg. GOVERNMENT REPORT The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A moderate anticyclone has been crossing the South Island, while a. series of shallow depressions continues to advance over the northern Tasman Sea and northern New Zealand. Indications are for south-easterly to north-easterly winds, light to moderate generally, but strong at times at exposed places in and north of Cook Strait. Seas rather rough north of Kaikoura and in the Taranaki Bight; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong east to north-east winds and moderate to rather rough seas. Weather mainly fair but still some scattered showers or misty rain in eastern and far northern districts. Temperatures coolj but becoming gradually milder.
