GANDHI'S FAST
DECISION UNALTERABLE
APPEALS PROVE FRUITLESS
CALCUTTA, Sept. 18
Prominent Hindus have mado further efforts to persuade their leader, Gandhi, to abandon his starvation project. However, the Mahatma, replying to an appeal from Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru, Hindu Liberal leader, said: "I could not alter a decision taken in God's name, but if God wills it my body will hold against the fast long enough for a settlement."
It is rumoured that Gandhi is to •become the guest of a well-known local Indian woman sympathiser when lie leaves the gaol for a private residence, which is the intention of the Government of India,
Leading Bombay Hindus have called on the British Prime Minister,' Mr. MacDonald, to avert a national crisis. A campaign has been started for tho observation throughout India of a fast on Tuesday.
