PROPOSAL AT NORTHOOTE I. IJ , | • i: Ai proposal; for the establishment of a kindergarten at Northcote, preferably free, was -placed before a public meeting at Northcote last' evening. The Mayor, Mr. R. Martiri, presided. The matter had been ; considered by the Primary School Committee, the members of which submitted details and Estimated expenditure. Speakers.emphasised the need of a kindergarten, which would take children of three, four and five years of age. It was estimated from 60 to 90 children would attend and the school should open in February. At least £6O was required to start. As a preliminary step Mesdames W. P. Hay, J. W. Lethbridge, D. H. Opperman, J. Blake and F. Newman, Mr. H. Shaw and the Rev. F. W. Wilkes (convener) were appointed a committee to investigate the possibilities of the scheme and the financial support that would be forthcoming. Another public meeting in four weeks' time will decide upon further action.
