HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST

CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:—The new cyclone, referred to in Saturday's report, is moving across the Jasman Sea from New South Wales. The high barometric pressure system is still located over New Zealand, but pressure is" relatively low northward. Expect cloudy to overcast weather conditions in northern and east coast districts, with rain following. Mainly fair to fine in southern areas. Easterly to north-easterly winds, moderate to strong prevailing and increasing, especially in places northward of East Cape. Moderate south-easterlies ruling in the south. Seas becoming rough and increas : ing on the east coast. Local outlook: Cloudy and unsettled. Mild temperatures. Barometer, midnight, steady 30.10 in. Midnight, Saturday .. .. 30.001n. Temperature in *shade yesterday (to mid-night)—-Maximum, 62deg.; minimum, 54deg. GOVERNMENT REPORT The Government meteorologist- reported last evening as follows: —There is little change in the pressure distribution. Barometers are high in the south, while to the northward shallow depressions continue to pass. Indications are for south-east to north-east winds, mainly light to moderate, but freshening at times in exposed positions. Seas rather rough in places north of Kaikoura and about Cook Strait, otherwise smooth to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to fresh south-east to north-east winds and moderate to rather rough seas. The weather will be fine in western districts and in the far south; elsewhere still cloudy to overcast, with misty rain in places, but improving. Temperatures moderate.
