WORK OF TAILORESSES LOWER WAGES PROPOSED Proposed conditions for a new tailoresses' award, which was filed yesterday by Auckland (employers, include the provision that wages be assessed on an hourly basis instead of at a weekly rate, and that the rate of pay be lOd an hour. This is a reduction .on the present rate. An increase in the hours from 44 to 45 is proposed, and a reduction is sought in the overtime rates. It is suggested that the wages of female apprentices be reduced. '1 he hearing of the wicker workers dispute, which was adjourned, wiil be continued to-day before Mr. P. Jlally, conciliation commissioner. TARANAKI BUTCHERS NO SETTLEMENT REACHED [BY TELEGRAPH-—PRESS association] NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday Proposals bv the employers for a new award for butchers in Taranaki were argued all day before a conciliation council. No agreement was reached and a motion to refer the dispute to the Arbitration Court was defeated. /Wages formed the chief cause of the disagreement.
