POSTAL EMPLOYEES
ASSOCIATION'S STATUS RENEWED RECOGNITION SOUGHT Members of the Auckland section of the Post and Telegraph Employees' Association met in the Trades Hall last evening to consider the efforts which are being made by the association's executive to secure the restoration of official recognition of the organisation. The meeting, which was addressed by the general secretary, Mr. J. H. McKenzie, unanimously endorsed the stand taken by the executive. Similar meetings are being held in other centres throughout the Dominion and it is intended to place the association's case before Parliament at the coming session. Mr. McKenzie stated last evening that his association was making every effort to heal the breach with the Government which had existed since last May, when official recognition of the association was withdrawn. The undertakings which the association's executive was prepared to enter into regarding its future activities conformed almost entirely with the restrictions that had been laid down by the Postmaster-General, the Hon. A. Hamilton, and the secretary of the department in correspondence preceding the executive's meeting. However, a deadlock in the negotiations for renewed recognition had been caused by the executive's unwillingness to forgo the right of giving publicity to the service viewpoint on matters concerning the economic welfare or conditions of employment of employees in the service. The matter was being referred by the executive to the members of the association for consideration and instructions regarding future action.
