TAURANGA COUNTY RATES

WORK ON KAIMAI HIGHWAY [FROM our own correspondent] TAUKANGA, Saturday General rates on the unimproved value were struck by the Tauranga County Council yesterday as follows: — Katikati Riding, in the pound; Te Puna Riding, 2£d; Waimahu Riding, 2£d; Te Puke Riding, 2£d; Maketu Riding, l£d; Mount Maunganui town district, within the Te Puke Riding, 1 l-Bd. A hospital rate of id in the pound was also struck on the capital value. The engineer reported that tho whole of the unsealed portion of the Kaimai highway, from Tauranga to Ruahihi, had be6n graded and. additional metal spread where required. Between Ruahihi and the county boundary visibility had been improved by cutting back corners and building up bends. A crusher had been installed at the Athenree quarry in readiness for commencing the by-roads loan metalling work in the Katikati Riding. The- construction of Youngson's Road, in the Te Puna Riding, to open up new land, was carried out with relief labour. The sum of £llOB was received from the Treasury as the subsidy on rates for the past year.
