CHILD'S AGONY
PINNED BENEATH. TRAM A schoolgirl -was run over by a tram in Sydney on August 25. and one of her legs was* so badly mangled that it had to bo amputated. The tram came to rest on the child s left leg, and nfioro than a quarter of an hour elapsed before she was released. Desperate efforts were made by the largo crowd to lift the tram, but owing to the danger of its slipping down the steep, incline they had to desist. The girl, Peggy Georgina Cuolohan, who is only nine years of age, displayed wonderful courage. About 5.30 o'clock a city-bound tram was rounding a curve at a street cornel. The girl, it is believed, ran in front with the intention of crossing tho road. The tram was moving slowly. The driver jammed on the brakes, bub the vehicle struck the child, and she was thrown beneath. _ . _ V When a doctor arrived the girl was comparatively calm, despito her terrible injuries. He gave her an injection to relieve her agony. Jacks were placed under the tram, and the car was slowly raised from the sufferin." child. A waiting ambulance was ready, and she was rushed to hospital. The terrible nature of her wounds necessitated an immediate operation.
