THIEF'S HAUL OF HATS
CORRIDOR IN COURTHOUSE NONE LEFT ON RACKS [b* telegraph—press Association] CHKISTCHURCH, Friday 1 While a long and rather tedious civil case was occupying the attention of most of the people in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, a thief entered the building and, seizing an opportunity when, the long corridor was empty, made a clean sweep of the hatracks. He made away with at least six hats, including thafof Mr. H. A. Young, S.M., which he took from the magistrate's private room, but he later abandoned it when he found that the name was clearly stamped inside it. One of the hats stolen was a new one, whicli Mr. A. W. Smithson bought only yesterday. .Mr. J. D. Hutchison, another ioser, bought his last week. Two witnesses and a reporter also lost their hats. The only party to the case who did not suffer a loss was Mr. M. Hollander, who had his hat in Court with him, as he wore it when taking the oath.
