AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP The Auckland provincial amateur billiard championship, for the Billiards, Limited, Shield, was advanced anolher stage - last evening at Billiards. Limited, showrooms, M. D. "VVhito defeating L. F. Holdsworth. Tha game attracted a large gathering. • Both players scored freely a 4 the commencement of the game. White gained a lead by making a neat all-round break of 56. Holdsworth retaliated and made one of 27. He missed aome ohances through overeagerness and left some goad openings for his opponent, who was scoring with consistency. "White mixed hie game judiciously in a splendid all-round breast of 73, making the scores 248 to 113 in his favour. Holdsworth played nicely in a break 6f 29. White kept forcing the gome, and bright of 24 and 35 resulted from his cue. Hia average was over 10 up to this stage. Holdsworth was playing well against las more experienced opponent, and ne earned applause for a well-played break of 44. White ran up a break of 31 and made,the scores 416 to 320. The latter maintained his advantage and won a bright game by 136 points. The final scores were;—M. 1). White. SM): breaks of 56, 73. 24, 35. 31, >23: L. F. Holdsworth. 364; breaks of 27. 29, 44,31. To-night E. Y. Roberts (shield holder) will be opposed by H, A. Massey. The draw {or the semi-finals is:—W. E. Hackett v. L. S, Hemus, Monday; M. D. White v. winner E. V. Roberts and H, A. Massey, Tueßday.
