BOXING
OXLEY'S FIRST APPEARANCE Local followers of boxing will have their first opportunity of seeing the promising light-weight, Ted Oxley, in action when he meets Archie Hughes at the Town Hall next Tuesday evening. Oxley scored a decisive win over Hairy Johns, the Dominion light-weight champion, and has been acclaimed as the best boxing "find" for years. Tho Southerner has won his last 19 fights, both amateur and professional, in convincing style. He not only outpointed Johns, but twice had him on the canvas when the gong intervened. In the last two rounds of the fight Oxley had Johns down on four occasions, the final gong saving the champion from defeat by a knock-out. Such a sterling performance has placed Oxley right in the forefront and his contest with Hughes, who is also noted for his cleverness and punching power, should be thrilling from etart to finish. A good amateur programme will precede " the main event.
