AEROPLANE CHASES MAN

Mr. John de Forest, tho British amateur golf champion, had to run for his life when an empty aeroplane "chased" him across Heston Aerodrome, Middlesex, a few weeks ago. He had landed after a solo flight, and, being in a hurry to start again, "swung" the propeller himself instead of taking the usual course of calling a mechanic to do so. The engine leapt into life with unexpected energy, and Mr. do Forest narrowly escaped with his life as tbo machine moved forward and the whirling propeller nearly caught him. He had the presence of mind to turn and run, with the runaway aeroplane lumbering after him across the field. Suddenly he tripped and fell, and the machine was nearly on top of him when it, too, "tripped" and came to a stop —standing on its nose. Mr. de Forest was badly bruised and uonblo to continue his flight.
