PROTEST FROM REFEREES OFFICIALS FOR TEST GAMES MATCH AT NEW PLYMOUTH Tho Auckland Rugby League Referees' Association forwarded a protest to the New Zealand Rugby League Council last evening against tho appointments of referees to recent matches with the English-, men. It was pointed out that the managers of tho English team insisted on tho appointment of a referee, and that the nominations from tho New Zealand Referees' /Association were ignored. It was considered most unfair that competent referees in Auckland were passed over in the matter of selection in the test matches. Mr. C. A. Sneddon, chairman, said the matter required careful consideration. Cooperation with Australia was necessary on future tours with regard to tho selection of referees.

Mr. W. O. Carlaw said a similar position had been created in Australia, whero the authorities had experienced difficulty in pleasing the visitors. It was decided to defer any action until odvice had been received from Australia. The Auckland referees would be informed of the position. Tho progress committee reported that arrangements were in hand for tho exhibition game at New Plymouth on Saturday week. The Pukekura ground had been engaged nnd there was every prospect, of a good attendance. Mr. E. Stallwortliy said two club teams from Auckland would visit Taranaki, but it was not definitely known which clubs wore availablo. Several delegates said the suggestion that the Marist and City Clubs should play the match was premature. Mr. R. Doblo said no definite arrangements had been, mado with tho Auckland Rugby League, whose competition would not permit a postponement ehould City or Marist bo included in the Roope Rooster final. Ho suggested that the.ieams eliminated to-morrow should be invited to visit Now Plymouth. Mr. W. J. Davidson raised objection to that proposal, as only the best j;lub teams ehould re-introduce the game into New Plymouth. " * • Mr. W. O. Carlaw read a letter from the Devonjort Club which stated tha club waa prepankd to make the trip. It was eventually decided to postpone any further arrangements until the conclusion of Saturday's matches, when club delegates would be invited to discuss the question with the council. Dr. H. M. Buchanan, medical superintendent of the Avondale Mental Hospital, wrote expressing appreciation of the council's action in granting free admission to patients to the test matches between England and New Zealand. The Wellington Rugby League advised that 30 new registrations had been received in one week. These included several well-known Rugby Union players. The transfer of A. Baumanj from the City Club, Whangarei, to City Club, Auckland, was t.pprovcid.
