DRAINAGE AT TAMAKI
DELAY IN STARTING WORK DEPARTMENT REQUESTS DETAILS A delay in' carrying out the drainage scheme on the Tamaki estate at Otahuhu was reported at a meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council last evening. The Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, said tlie Public Works Department had advised that the work could not be put in hand until plans and specifications had been furnished by the council. "This seems a ridiculous request," said Mr. Clements. "It will hold up the work for at least two months, just at the moment when we are ready to make a start." The department had asked for specifications of the septic tank and insisted that it be of reinforced concrete. The plans had been approved by the Health Department and the Local Government Loan.? Board had sanctioned loan. The men were waiting and the material was on hand. Mr. Clements said it was intended to construct the septic tank in concrete, but. if drawings were required by tho department then there would bo considerable delav, as it would necessitate engaging an engineer to make them. It seemed foolish to ask for detailed specifications when the Borough Council was supervising the work itself and tho Health Department had approved the scheme. It was decided to authorise the Mayor to approach the Public Works engineer and ascertain if the work of laying the sewer could be carried out immediately.
