BREWERY LICENCE
PROTEST AGAINST ISSUE At a meeting of the Auckland council of the New Zealand Alliance strong exception was taken to tho action of tho Minister of Customs in granting a licence for a new brewery. It was pointed out that tho Minister had previously refused to issue a licence, but tho Supreme Court had decided that, as the law then stood, tho licence must bo granted, providing the building was erected and equipped to conform with tho requirements of tho law. Although the Finance Act distinctly stated that a licence could only be applied for and issued when a. suitable building was in existence, the Minister of Customs had apparently granted a licence to a new company, which proposed to erect a brewery in tho future. The Alliance council decided to protest strongly against tho issue of a licence contrary to the requirements of tho Act and to request thab-thi3 licence should be cancelled immediately.
