DIFFICULTIES OF FINANCE
BOARD ALIVE TO POSITION
"We are not the only local body 'up against it,' " said the chairman of the Mount Roskill Road Board, Mr. C. M. McCullough, at last evening's meeting, commenting on the debit balance of £15,169 shown in the financial statement. "Wo are doing everything humanly possible to place the board's finances on a firm basis."
"Ensuring (lie maintenance of boundary roads is always difricult," said Mr. E. Morton, Mayor of Onehnnga, wlio headed a deputation which waited on the board to discuss repairs to Pleasant Street. Mr. Morton suggested Hie board should either share the cost of repairs or alter the boundary to enable the Onehunga Borough Council to collect rates on the western side of the street as well as on the eastern side. It was decided to inspect the street this morning. "Having the footpaths torn up to allow underground cables to be placed in position is a serious matter," said Mr. J. Donald, when intimation that underground cables were to bo put down under (he footpaths of five streets was received from (ho Auckland district telegraph engineer. Mr. Donald urged that the cables should bo placed under the grassed margin of the footpaths. The matter was referred to tbo Works Committee. It, was decided to repair the tramway shed at Greenwood's Corner, portion of (bo cost being borne by the Transport Board and the One Tree llill Borough Council.
