LATE MR. J. P. McPHAIL

Sympathy with tha relatives in th# death of Mr. J. T. McPhail, who was Mayor of Birkenhead, was expressed in a resolution passed at a special meeting of the Birkenhead Borough Council last evening. The deputy mayor, Mr. G. B. Hewson, said Mr. McPhail had been a faithful servant to the district as Mayor and councillor for many years. The whole borough mourned his death. A tribute to the late Mr. McPhail was paid last evening at a meeting of the Northcote Borough Council, which decided to forward a letter of sympathy to the relatives. The Mayor, Mr. R. Martin, said that, from his personal acquaintance with Mr. McPhail in municipal and «dticational affairs,, he knew the loss which hacl occurred to the Birkenhead district.
