SUPPLIES OF MILK
HOSPITAL BOARD CONTRACT
HIGHER PRICES QUOTED
The desirability of arranging for private supplies of milk for the hospital and other institutions until lower contract prices could be quoted was discussed at a meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board yosterday. Three tenders were received for the year's supply, and it was stated that in every case the figures were higher than those of the existing contract.
"This is probably the worst month of the year in which to call for tenders for milk," said Mr. G. T. Parvin. "The continued dry weather has resulted in an acute milk shortage. The present rains will alleviate the position and are going fo mean thousands of pounds to the farmers. I am certain wo could get a better offer by waiting until the shortage is past." It was pointed that the prices quoted would cover tlie whole year, irrespective of seasonal fluctuations in price, and it was decided to accept the tender of : tho Auckland Milk Company, Limited. The prices were as follows: —Milk for all institutions, Is lid a gallon; cream, Is 3d a pint; milk delivered to recipients of relief, Is 8d a gallon.
