HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST
CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED
Tho following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— The cyclone is passing nortliward of New Zealand, and is causing stormy weal her, with rain, in North Auckland and East coast districts. Further rain is expected in tho northern portion of the North Island and tho east coast. Mainly fair to fine in places southward of Auckland, with very cold night temperatures, and frosts inland. Easterly to northeasterly winds, moderate to strong, increasing strong to gale at times in the north. Kough to heavy seas on (he east coast, particularly northward from East Cape. Local outlook: Cloudy and unsettled. Cold temperatures. Barometer, midnight, rising „ 30.20 in. Midnight, Tuesday .. 30.10 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum. 55deg.; minimum, 51deg. GOVERNMENT REPORT The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—The anticyclone covering the Dominion has intensified somewhat while the cyclone to the northwestward lias remained practically stationary. Indications are for light to moderate and variable winds in the southern half of the South Island; elsewhere moderate to strong east to south-east winds, reaching gale force at places in and north of Cook St»it %nd, Kaikoura; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong east winds to gales in the northern portion with rough to heavy seas; moderate to strong south-east winds in the southern portion with rather rough seas. Weather cloudv 3nd unsettled in northern and ea.«t coast districts of the North Island, with scattered rain, but some heavy falls prohable in North -^Auckland; elsewhere fair to fine.
