ROUGH WEATHER AT SEA

DELAYS TO STEAMERS

VESSEL'S DECKS FLOODED

Westerly gales and high head seas were encountered daring the last five days of the voyage of the Canadian National steamer Canadian Conqueror, which arrived from Montreal yesterday mormng. During the height of the storms the vessel could progress at only half speed, and she was buffeted by seas which broke on board forward and flooded her decks, but did not do any damage. When nearing the coast on Tuesday the wind moderated and changed to the north-east. Shipping is being delayed by a cyclonic storm which is passing to the north of New Zealand. The Levernbank is expected to reach Auckland from Java to-day siter having been delayed for two days by the rough weather. The Kairanga has been delayed in the Tasman Sea and advises that she will arrive from Melbourne tomorrow. She was due on Tuesday. The north-east wind has caused rough seas on the coast, and local coastal vessels are affected. The Northern Company's motor-vessels Otimai and Toa left Auckland on Tuesday for Opotiki and Whakatane respectively, but owing to the bars being unworkable at both ports the Otimai was sheltering yesterday at Cape Colville and the Toa at Tauranga. The company's motor-vessel Paroto, which i:i en route from Northern ports to Auckland, was delayed yesterday at Kerikeri.
