VALUE OF RACING CUPS

TROPHY FROM LAST YEAR

SEQUEL TO A DEAD-HEAT

The proverb "It is fin ill wind that blows nobody good" applies to racing just as it does to anything else. Last year the gold cups for the winners of the Mitchelson Cup and Auckland Cup events were each of the value of £IOO, but while this year the trophy for the Auckland Cup has been reduced in value to £SO, that for the Mitchelson Cup remains at £IOO. The explanation is that the cup intended for last year's race was never used because there was a dead-heat, and two new cups, each worth £SO, had to be made. The owner of this year's winner will therefore receive a trophy double the value it would otherwise have been.
