OPTIMISTS' CLUB

A concert programme, organised by members of the Optimists' Club of the Y.M.C.A., was presented at a fancy dr'css dance lielcl for (lie patients jit the Auckland Mental Hospital. The main portion of the programme comprised items by St. Matthew s pierrot troupe under tlio leadership of Mr. Ralph Dyer. Songs were sung by Mr. S. Parker and an exhibition ot tap dancing was given by Mr. F. Coppens. A grand parade, led by Dr. Buchanan, medical superintendent at the hospital, took place during the evening, in which tl,o brilliant and original fancy drosses worn by the patients were shown to advantage. Dancing was then held, lliclucl ' iiiLi th© lancers, the Otaliuhu Workshop Orchestra, under Mr. 15. Taylor, providing the music. Following the dance, the contributors to the programme were entertained at supper by the matron and inemi bcrs of the staff.
