INTERESTING COINS
EXAMPLES FROM IRELAND
An interesting collection of Irish coins, including pre-union- and present-day Free State types, is owned by Mr. E. D. Bollard, of Prospect Road, Glen Eden. The Irish Free State coins in his possession, with their denominations and designs, -are as follows:—2s 6d, horse; 2s, salmon; Is, bull; 6d, Irish wolf-hound; 3d, hare; Id, hen ant^jgfhickens; gd, sow and litter; and -Jd, snipe. A coin with an unknown denomination is a George 111. gilt coin, as light as brass, bearing a head and laurels and the words "D.G. Rex," a harp sur- .- mounted by a crown and the word "Hibernia." The centre of tho milling is indented. Pre-union Irish coins include George 111. halfpennies of 1776 and 1781 and George HI. silver bank tokens of the values* of 4d, 5d and lOd. Mr. Bollard also has a D. O'Connell, M.P., coin com- « i memorating the repeal of the corn laws, a Queen Anne Is, a James 11. halfpenny of 1690 and a Victorian third of a far-" thing : and a farthing. There is also an 1839 medal showing the heads of John and Charles "Wesley. Mrs. C. Durrani, of Jellicoe Avenne, Tuakau, has some particularly, early English coins, notably some of the reign of Henry 11. in the 12th century. There are also coins of Edward 1., Edward 11., Henry. V., Henry VH.. Queen Elizabeth, Queen Anne and specimens of the [William and Georgian periods..r
