WAIHI HOSPITAL FEES
FRIENDLY SOCIETY MEMBERS
WAIKINO LODGES* REQUEST [by telegraph—oto correspondent] WAIHI, Wednesday In revising the fees charged to patients treated in the Waihi Hospital, the board recently decided to increase the rates to friendly society patients from outside districts, apart from employees of the Waihi Gold Mining Company working at the Waikino battery who are lodge members. A deputation from Waikino lodge 3 which waited on the Hospital Board last evening pointed out that a large proportion of members were not in the company's employ, and the deputation asked if these members and their families could not be treated at the rate fixed for adults belonging to friendly societies within the Waihi district. The chairman, Mr. L. Jowsey, said the cost per patient treated in the institution was 15s a day, and that if the board acceded to the request for a charge of 6s daily, the ratepayers of Waihi would have to find the bSlance of 9s. He did not consider it fair that they should be asked to carry this burden, but the board would look further into the question of friendly societies' fees at its next meeting.
