THE GRASS GRUB

Sir,—ln your issue of August 3it is reported that largo areas of Karaka and Waiau are bocoming affected with grass grub. So far as Karaka is concerned I think I know my district as well as any. one, and I can hardly see any traces of the ravages of the grub. In any case, now is the time for farmers to feed out hay, ensilage or roots on the affected parts, and let the ground havo a good trampling with stock. This, with heavy grazing or mowing when the beetle lavs its eggst daring the late spring and the help of our feathered friends, particularly the starlings, will go a long way to keep the grub in check.
