Aug. 9 The following are the results of the latest county cricket matches: — Middlesex v. Surrey. —Middlesex: First innings, 141 (Parker four for 36); second, 455 (Sims 103, Ilendrcn 145; Brown five for 81). Surrey: First innings, nine for 540, declared (Brown 212, Jardino '126. Hobbs 92); second, four for 57. Surrey won by six wickets. Essex v. Somerset. —Essex: First innings, 303; second, 131 (White five for 37). Somerset: First innings, 266; second, nine for 172. Somerset won by ono wicket. Derby v. Yorkshire. —Derby: I'irst innings, 78 (Verity six for 32); second, 249 (Worthington 102; Verity fivo lor 37). Yorkshire: First innings, seven for 416, declared (Leylnnd 113, Sutcliffo 182). Yorkshire won by an innings and 89 runs. Northants v. Hampshire.—Northants: First innings, 253 (Jupp 90); second, 251. Hampshire: First innings, 217; second, 174 (Jupp seven for 69). Northants won by 113 runs. Glamorgan v. Worcester.—Glamorgan: First innings, 131; second, 397 (Dyson 103, Every 116). Worcester: First innings, 266; second, eight for 165. Worcester won on the first innings. Ames' Century for Kent Notts v. Lancashire. —Notts: First innings, 232 (Sihbles fivo for 49) ; second, eight for 254, declared. Lancashire: First innings, 221 (Watson 92; Voce six for 57); second, 132 (Larwood five for 42). Notts won by 124 runs. Sussex v. Kent.—Sussex: First innings, 284 (Watt five for 90) ; second, seven for 363, declared (J. Langridgo 104, H. Parks 149 not out). Kent: First innings, 282 (Ames 133; Tate six for 98); second, five for 241. Sussex won on the first innings. Warwick v. Leicester.—Warwick : First innings, 250 (Kilner 104 not out) • second, four for 376 (Croom 103, Wyatt 131). Leicester: First innings, 379 (Jarrett eight for 187). Leicester won on tho first innings. Bowler's Feat as Batsman Although F. R. Brown (Surrey) was chosen for the English team to tour Australia principally as a bowler, ho made a hurricane 212 against Middlesex at the Oval in 165 minutes, recalling Jessop at his fiercest. Brown l>roke two bats. He hit the ball seven times out of the Oval, and also registered 15 fours. Jardine made a faultless 126, which occupied 190 minutes. Sutcliffe's 182 in 250 minutes against Derby synchronised with the Yorkshire committee voting him 400 guineas in recognition of his 100 centuries in first-class cricket. Ames' 133 for Kent against Sussex took 180 minutes. This was his fifth century of the season. I Tate is bowling in fine form. Larwood ! and Voce also were effective against Lancashire. Jupp completed tho " double " of 100 wickets and 1000 runs for the season, beating W. G. Grace's previous amateur record of the same " double " far eight seasons. Hendren's century made him equal to Mead with 130 first-class centuries. They nre thus next to Hobbs on the centuries' list. The county championship leaders are: Yorkshire 225 points, Sussex 206, Kent 200, Notts 190, Surrey 168. Tho Indian cricketers scored 236 and 390 to Gloucestershire's 230 and 341, thus winning by 55 runs. C. C. Ducre, formerly of New Zealand, made 95 in the county's second innings.
