WHITE HERON'S VISIT

Blue herons wading in the water along the coast in the vicinity of Petone, Wellington, and along the road toward East bourne are comparatively common but a much rarer visitor is the white heron. One of the latter was seen this week near Point Howard and attracted much attention from those passing along tho road. White herons have been seen in that locality before, but only rarely. It is surmised that they coine from Lake Wairarapa, but why they pay these visits, which serin always to bo brief and to be made 1 by only one bird at .1 time, is a matter ' of conjecture. Tho white heron is a beau- | tiful and graceful bird, well deserving of 1 the protection accorded it. J
