llikuiangi.-rr-.At a meeting of tho in stitute "a demonstration of wool rugmaking was .-.given by Mrs. Haridsell. A recitation was given, by Miss E. Lander, and songs by Mrs. Pugli. A roll call on useful bints was also held. The hostesses were Misses E. and M. Lander, H. Handsell, E. Graham, and M. Walker. Manawaru.—At a recent meeting of tho institute Mrs. Trounson, president of the Waikato Federation, gave an address on institute matters, followed by a demonstration of cane and raffia tray making. Hostesses wore Mesdames L. Fitzgerald, Graham and Miss Hogan. Maunu.—Tho institute celebrated tho fourth anniversary of its birth at Mrs. H. T. Snell's residence. It was decided that at tho next meeting each member should bring something in the grocery line to bo forwarded to the Whangarei Citizens' Relief Committee. A musical competition was won by Mrs. McKay, of Waipu. Mrs. Wilson welcomed the visitors who were present from the branches at Hikurangi, Kamo, Titoki and Waipu. A humorous play, entitled "Men and Women's Rights," was rendered. A "bring and buy" stall to augment the federation fund realised £1 4s fcd. Omaha and Pakiri.—The second anniversary of the Omaha and Pakiri Institute was celebrated by a social afternoon. A beautifully decorated, two-tiered birthday cake, with two candles, donated by Mrs. A. Wyatt, had place of honour on the tea-table. Visitors from Warkworth, . Kaipara Flats and Matakana helped to make the function a great success. Mesdames W. F. Hamper and Rosieur contributed pianoforte selections. A competitiori arranged by Mrs. <T. Wyatt was won by Mrs. B. Middlemas, Mrs. W. F. Hai-pdr and Mrs. T. Ashton. A roll call, a curio or treasure, brought forth some very interesting talks. A short play, produced by some of the members, Mesdames A. J. Matheson, 1. Gubb, Walden and the Misses R. Matheson, A. Fecht and G. Ashton, was much appreciated. Community singing led by Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Rennie's rendering of " Annio Laurie" were much enjoyed. A delicious tea was provided by the members. Otakiri. —At a meeting of tho institute Mrs. Hampton gave a very interesting talk on "Northern Ireland." A competition in puff pastry was won by Mrs. Keir, with Mrs. Jessup second, and Mrs. J l\om third. A bring-and-buy stall of annual and perennial plants, under the charge of Mrs. Hampton, augmented the institute funds. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Cobden and Mrs. Rutherford. Te Aroha.—At a meeting of the institute an enjoyable play reading, "A .Man's Job." was given by members, and was greatlv appreciated. After a competition arranged by Mrs. J. 13. McKay, suppci was handed round by the hostesses, Mesdames Ilamlvti, Thomuson and .lessor, and I Mo le Kowllai. Members of the institute | at a recent meeting decided to sell tickets in aid of the country queen in the Hamilton Y.M.C.A. carnival. Money from the sales table was donated to tho buying of wool to knit garments for the Welfare League. A number of garments have already been knitted by the members from the proceeds of the last sales table. Mrs. Ryan, of Hamilton, demonstrated the making o! a "woodwork pouffe. Songs and pianoforte solos by Mrs. G. Roves and Mrs. Prentice, of Hamilton, respectively, were thoroughly, enjoyed. Elocutionary items by Mrs. Roberts were much appreciated. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Coston, Friedlander, Gaskell, desson and Wcathcil,\. Waitoa. —Mrs. A. W. Johnson presided at the monthly meeting of the institute. An instructive' lecture on gardening for profit was given by Mr. J. Brown. Cuttings of floworing. shrubs were handed round to members. Numerous parcels of foodstuffs and clothing were brought in by members for distribution among the unemployed. Hostesses were Mesdames Ashton, Bigwood, Reav, J- Cook and A. W. Johnson. Warkworth.-ln discussing matters of business at a recent meeting tho institute agreed that after certain expenses had been taken out of funds raised by an exhibition and snlo of articles, the rest of the money be used for charitable purposes, Miss McGregor gave a most interesting travel talk on Switzerland. The hostesses were Mesdames Moore, Brown and llalligan. Waitakaruru.—At the recent monthly meeting Mrs. Foster, of Ngatou, gave an interesting demonstration of smocking. Miss McLure won the guessing competition of old photographs. The roll call "Useful Household Hints" elicited much helpful inforrnation. A presentation was made to Master Gordon, the first baby born since tlie local institute was formed. The hostesses were Mesdames MoClune, Hedges and Miss McPherson.
