PICTURES ON SUNDAY

THEATRE MANAGER CHARGED NEWMARKET TEST CASE A charge of keeping the Rialto Theatre. Newmarket, open on Sunday, June 12, for the purpose of transacting business, was preferred against E. Seager, theatre manager, in the Police Court yesterday. Seven other persons were charged with aiding and abetting Seager in the commission of the alleged offence. On the application of counsel for the defence all the cases were adjourned until August 19 by the magistrate, Mr. W. R. McKean. The prosecution against Seager, which has been brought by the police, will be in the nature of a test case, as the Newmarket Borough Council has authorised the screening of pictures in the Rialto Theatre on Sunday evenings.
