PAPATOETOE

A social evening organised by members of tho Franklin Burns Club and friends was held in the Renown Hall, Papatoetoe, recently, in honour of Mr. and Mrs. E. McLeod and family, of Papatoetoe, and in recognition of their many services to tlie club and other social movements in the district. Mr. McLeod, who lias been president of the Burns Club for a number of years, and is also president of the rapatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club, has devoted much time and effort to furthering these and other movements. A keen piper, his services have been much in demand at entertainments and athletic meetings, on behalf of which he has organised many programmes of Scottish and Highland dancing. Over 100 members and friends foregathered in the hall, and an enjoyable evening was spent. Tributes to the McLeod family were paid in a number of happy speeches. Musical items were given by Mr. C. Ellis (Auckland). A' dance programme was enjoyed to music provided by Mrs. Colman and MessrS. C. Ellis, J. Enwrighfc," R. Johnston and T. Ruki. Monto Carlo waltzes were won by Miss B. King and Mr. T. Ruki, and Miss K. Dickson and Mr. R. Fiatt. Supper was served at decorated tables in the supper room. Among those present were:—Mrs. J. Powell (Auckland), Mrs. H. C. Webster, Mrs. E. Morley, Mrs. R. McLeod, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. J. Cosey (Drury), Mrs. R. Webster, MVs. Runciman, Mrs. J. Dickson, Mrs. W. G. Lynn, Mrs. Christiansen, Mrs. Smithers, Mrs. A. Johnston (Papakura), Mrs. Coleman (Drury), Mrs. Moody (Papakura), Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Civil, Mrs. Brown, Miss K. Dickson, Misses J. and N. McLeod, Miss R. McLean (Devonport), Miss J. Martin, Miss Boagh, Miss B. King, Miss M. Enwright, Miss S. Morrison (Te Aroha), Miss 0. Lynn, Miss N. Lynn and Miss E. Macky.
