RUNAWAY BUSH ENGINE

OUT OF CONTROL ON HILL DRIVER SEVERELY SCALDED [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] TE KTJITI, Thursday An accident occurred yesterday on tho bush railway leading to tho Mahara Timber Company's workings near PorooTarao, when a locomotive left the track. Tho driver, Mr. William Green, was severely scalded. The engine, with one waggon, was ascending a steep incline and got out of control. It van back aud jumped tho rails to coino to rest on its side. Mr. Green, who was the only one in the engine, had no chance to get clear, and was still in the cab when tho engino camo to rest. Ho received severe scalds to his hands, face and legs from the burst steam pipes, and was also truised and shaken. He ia now in the To Kuiti Hospital. Mr. Green began his work at Poro-o-Tarao only about a week ago. He has a wife and two children in Auckland.
